Show OHIO DEMOCRATS LENTZ WILL NO A DELEGATE TWO FACTIONS IN convention columbus ohio june 12 all the preliminary work of the democratic state convention was completed today so that business can be dispatched tomorrow the old state committee concluded its business during the ore noon and the delegates meet in the afternoon to select members of tho new state committee officers of the and members of committees the members all meet tonight so as to be able to report to the convention tomorrow morning the committee on credentials has a contest to bettle between the allson and parley delegates ot cleveland and other minor contests to consider the committee on resolutions will have many differences of opinion to settle on the language of the platform but there ara no radical regarding the issues the differences are mainly as to the form in which the declarations shall be made there will be contests tor all places on the state ticket and no slate Is likely to be able to get through one ol 01 the contests is james kilbourne Congressman and J J lentz ot this city tor delegate at large the mclean men control the convention by a large majority and they have been favoring lentz but the delegates of this district at their meeting today endorsed kilbourne tor delegate at large and as mr lentz Is making a fight now for reelection to congress he may not antagonize the delegates of his district there is some talk of making john R mclean a delegate at large notwithstanding his purpose to sail for europe next saturday and not attend the convention in that event there will be a contest for the place of first alternate at large who would no doubt be called upon to act in the absence of mr maloan among the many mentioned the most prominent are charles N haskell and john C behy tor tor the northern part of the state the agitation tor admiral dewey as the candidate tor vice continues and it is claimed to be entering into the contests tor delegate at large dewey was entertained here last week by kilbourne those who talk most about bryan and dewey tor the ticket at kansas city seem to favor lenz although mclean cannot be berehe Is represented by confidential men who are noncommittal non committal on the dewey candidacy after the bourne by the delegates of their home county this forenoon the fight between kilbourne and lentz is about over it is conceded that kilbourne will now be one of the delegates at large and that W S thomas of springfield will also be selected there is a contest on between george W hull and charles N haskell tor delegate at large as both reside in northwestern ohio it it is found that northwestern ohio can only have one delegate the mclean men will support haskell and the antl mclean men will stand tor hull the antl mclean men are trying to control the convention |
