Show PROVES HIS INNOCENCE Prisoner Serves Two Months For Crime He Did Not Commit Chicago. May 9. Charles Knight, after serving two months In jail awaiting trial for the supposed theft of a diamond brooch succeeded in proving his innocence by a small advertisement ad-vertisement which he had Inserted in a newspaper, and last night left tho county lockup a free man. Knight found the brooch In a Nortn Side restaurant. He was sick and needed'money, so he pawned his find With par, of the money he inserted the advertisement announcing the finding of the brooch In the mean-time mean-time the pawnbroker had been notified noti-fied that tho property had been stolen stol-en from a Mrs Artmueller Knight obtained a sura of money from his brother and went to redeem tho brooch. He was arrested. The case came before Judge Petit in habeas corpus proceedings When the court heard that Knight had called call-ed repeatedly to see It there was an answor to the advertisement he gavi him his freedom. |
