The "gentleman" "gentle-man" burglar, before whose clever operations op-erations the police stand baffled, succeeded suc-ceeded yesterday In the most lucrative coup of all the recent burglaries for which he is blamed. Entering the lome of C C. Fisher, 538 South First West street during tho absence of the occupants, the thief stole more than $500 worth of Jewelry Jew-elry Only the sudden return of Mrs Fisher prevented him from obtaining booty worth twice as much Ho was seen to flee through the back door anJ escape over a board fence In the rear, still carrying the Inevitable cane that has figured in every description of him the police have been able to get The stolen Jewelry consists chiefly of gold watches, stickpins, rings and family heirlooms. A small amount of cash was stolen. Entrance was gained by means of a Bkeleton key about 1 o'clock yesterday yester-day afternoon. Mrs. Fisher returned home a few minutes later. She did not see the burglar floe, but after the alarm had been spread a neighbor told of having watched him climb the back fence. Mrs. Fisher found her house in a bewildering state of disorder. oo |
