But so determined was Mr. Harris to make that movement n national one, he devoted his time and finally gave his life in the work. Upon the adjournment of the convention, Mr. Harris started en tour of the country talking "See America First." He stuck to the task like the little major he was and it was only Avhen his voice failed him did he return to his home in $alt Lake City, broken in health, but enthusiastic and high in spirits, Fisher Harris died in Salt Lake but not before he had launched a movement that will ever be a monument to his name. Press and public have taken up and endorsed the movement and now comes the United States government giving the movement move-ment its stamp of approval. The following dispatch from Washington, last night, is self-explanatory: self-explanatory: The "See America First" propaganda at last has', reached the federal government. Plans arc in contemplation for sending abroad a well-known government official whose name will not be revealed at present, to give illustrated lectures in the important cities of Europe on the beauties of America. It is believed by government authorities that a considerable part of the $500,000,000 spent abroad annually by Americans can be diverted into the pockets of American railroad stockholders, hotel keepers and guides. The scheme is not being considered altogether al-together in its commercial phase, the real purpose being to prove that this country has mountain, lake and moor scenery as beautiful as any to be found m foreign countries. |
