One of the men rescued by Mr. Fccncy was Isaac Bellman, a member of the club. Mr. Fceney and the grateful Belt-man Belt-man were discussing the thrilling rescue res-cue yesterday at lunch at the Fal-staff, Fal-staff, when a commlttco consisting of Judge H. H. Henderson, Joseph Scow-croft, Scow-croft, M. S Browning, Thomas Carr, E. W. Kennedy. B. B. Wilson. A. G. Fell. W. H. Wattls and fifteen or twenty others appeared on the scene. The' delegation disturbed the little meeting which was being held by Mr. Feeny and Mr. Bellman long enougn to present the former with a medal. While the medal was not one of platinum, plati-num, gold or other precious substance, It Is of the substance which has even better wearing qualities warranted oak-tanned boIc leather. On the medal is engraved the inscription, in-scription, ' Thcmas S. Feeny, Hero." The medal also bears an engraving of a dainty little "Rocky 'mountain canary," better known outside the mountainous regions as a burro. Tho presentation speech was made by Judge Henderson, and it was a model of elegant English, He said that the heroic act of the prominent business man would go hurling down the annals of all future history. He compared the work of Mr. Feeny with the act oX such heroes as Paul Revere and other prominent Americans from Revolutionary days down to the present pres-ent time. Drawing near to the real object of his oration, Judge Henderson said that, in Mr. Feeny, Ogden had a hero of which the city could feel justly proud. "On behalf of the assembled multitude. I present you. Thomas Sampson Feeny, with this medal," said Judge Henderson as he pinned the beautiful emblem on the swelling breast of the recipient. Amid the applause and congratulations congratula-tions from the members of the committee com-mittee and blushing like a school boy making his Friday afternoon speech, Mr. Feeny acknowledged the gift. It is stated on good authority that the medal was designed hy E. W. Kennedy and turned out in a local harness shop. |
