Show APOSTLE M'KAY OPPOSES DANCE PROVO, Jan. 2S. Apostle David O. McKay came down from Salt Lako this morning to attond the quarterly conference, which convened at tho stake tnbornnclo at 10 o'clock. There were present people from all parts of tho stake and both morning and afternoon after-noon sessions the building was well tilled. The question of public dance halls was taken up by Apostlo McKay, who stated that whilo dancing was in no way a part of the Latter-day Saint religion, It was allowed by the church In the early days, and was one of the best sources of amusemont. Today, however, tho public dance Is threatening threaten-ing tho moral welfare of all of tho larger cities, and chaste, virtuous young women aro being drawn into tho public halls, whoro (he evil Is creeping In and doing untold dnmago. The apostlo told of the dances which havo been .introduced of late which are of an immornl nature. A short time ago he stated that ono of the dance halls In Ogden put up the glaring sign, "No Introductions Necessary." Anyone could get Into this hall who hnd the admission price of 50 cents, and any young woman who attended tho dance was expected to dance with anyone who asked hor. In halls of this nature dancos of the low ortlor, with their origin In tho underworld, the Introduced, and untold un-told ovil is coming from them. These conditions will have to be remedied or tho public danco will bo fought by tho Latter-day Saints. Stako President Joseph B. Kceler reported the Utah stake to be in excellent ex-cellent condition He stated th thero aro In Utah stake 11,716 peo4 .j, or 2,451 families residing In Provo. Springville and the outlying farming districts. This is an Increase of 440 over tho year 1910. Thero were 107 deaths of church people peo-ple in the stake, a decrease of olx-teon olx-teon over tho previous year. Births have Increased .thcro being 436, which Is 21 more than occurred tho year before. be-fore. The stako has S9 widowers and 376 widows.
