Show INQUEST AS TO DEATH OF CHILD The inquest as to tho death of Nellie ILoniyn, the eleven-year-old girl, who was kil'lod by a street car at tho corner cor-ner of Twenty-fifth street and Madison Mad-ison avenue, October 17, was begun this morning beforo a coroner's jury In tbo city court, Tho Jury which has boen empaneled is composed of Ilyrum PIngreo, J. O. Bead and Wallace Boyle. These men will determine to what extent the Og-den Og-den Rapid Transit company was responsible re-sponsible for the child's death. Tho first witness called to the stand was Dr. B. M. Conroy, who told of viewing the dead body of tho child Immediately after tho occurrence occur-rence of the nccldent Dr C F Osgood, Os-good, who was the first physician to reach tho scene of tho fatality, told of seeing the dead body of the child beside the Twenty-fifth street car. The most Important witness heard during, the morning session was S H. Hendorshot, who was an oye-wltness to the child's death. Mr. Hendorshpt said that be was not more that two hundred feet from the scene of the accident ac-cident when It occurred. According to his story, the child was riding a bicycle with a scat so hih above the pedals that she had little control over It. Tho child was riding north on Madison avenue and two cars were approaching ap-proaching the Intersection from different dif-ferent directions on Twenty-f'fth street Tho girl was watching the car going wost and was struck by the car going enst. According to the witness wit-ness tho car was traveling at a very low rate of speed. Charles Turpin, who was driving a wagon and was passing tho corner of Twenty-fifth street and Madison avenue when tho accident occurred, testified that he saw the child approaching ap-proaching the crossing, but that the car obstructed Mr vision and he did not see the actual fatality. Conductor ChartoB E Peterson and Motorman CharloB E. Ford each told stories' of the accident and both testified tes-tified that the csr was traveling at a ery low rate of speed when the child was 6truck The Inquest was not completed until late this afternoon and the verdict of tho Jury may not bo rendered until tomorrow. |
