One of the urgent matters to be decided de-cided is as to the status of the present pres-ent heads of departments. An opinion opin-ion has been given the commissioners, commission-ers, it is understood, that all oifi-clals, oifi-clals, now acting, go out of office at noon January 1. If this opinion should bo upheld, the city would be without any officers to control the city until such time as the commissioners take action in the matter of appointments. The commissioners take the view, however, that the present heads of departments will hold their offices until un-til -their successors are selected and qualify. It is also understood that City Attorney-elect Barretto views tho matter in the earao light. ( f-t- |
