Moro thau usual interest Is being displayed this year at the Fair grounds In the varied displays in tho main exhibit hall, Vhich Is crowded with all manner of things of the most attractivo sort, Special mention has already been given in theso columns to many of the exhibits in the hall but there arc many moro deserving of particular mention. In the woman's department alone arc a hundred different entries that could well 'be commented upon separately The antique articles which havo been entered have been receiving a great deal of attention from tho visitors. Mrs. W. Marstol-lar, Marstol-lar, 33G Twenty-fifth street, Is exhibiting ex-hibiting a pewter plate two hundred years old. It was used as a sort of center table dlBh and in its day took tho placo of a sllv.er tray. Mrs. Mar-stellar Mar-stellar Js also exhibiting a China teapot tea-pot which is more than one hundred years old and a coverlet woven in 183S. A rug Is displayed which was made by Mra. J. M. Wright, who is 72 years old. This rug shows exceptionally fine workmanship and Incidentally it is decorated with a blue tag. There are two hand painted cushions cush-ions ontered from the Sacred Heart academy by Miss Zelda Harvey, aged 11 years, which are a great credit both to, tho maker and to the school which 'she attends. Tho Merchnnts' display by Silvia Deo shows some of the very best things In artistic, neodlo work' A plc-turo plc-turo done In cross Btltch Is being shown by N. Baker, 324 Harrison avenue. av-enue. This needle work' was dono In 1S75. The old folks who have enterod displays dis-plays dn the Woman's department huve dono exceptionally well In the way of premiums and many aged woman will bo gladdened by receiving premium tags to testify to the quality of their handwork. Tho woman's department is in charge of lrs. D. T. Tracy who is careful that no visitor misses ,seclng tho many pretty things which this department holds for the feminine eye. In ono of tho aisles hangs a small mode! of the battleship Utah, which Is tho hand work of Bryce Swartsfager, a school boy living at 21 5G Polk avenue. ave-nue. Kitchen Department. Tho kitchen department shows somo more things of groat interest to women wo-men and of equal interest to men for samples of nearly everything that Is pood to eat is shown here, iiiore aie loaves of that bread like mother used to make and thero arc cookies and cakes and jams and all the well known products of the kitchen. Tho oxhlblt proves that Ogdcn does not lack for good cooks. The candy display of Shupe-WIl-liams is calling for a great deal of favorable comment from tho visitors. ' I D. Clayton, who Is in chargo of tho Inland Crystal Salt company's display dis-play and in nddltion to giving good advice ad-vice about using Utah salt in preference prefer-ence to eastern brands is giving away samples of the Utah product. Bornard Branchman is In chargo ot the Ogden Electric Supply company's II 1TJT - display. Ho Is showing the advanl-n?cs advanl-n?cs of the vacuum cleaner for all kinds of homo uses. The display also includes electrical wnshlng machines. Tbo Jensen Creamery company Is displaying a nice line of dairy products. pro-ducts. Everybody is sampling tho butter which they are advortlslng and drinklug their buttermilk. Tho Ogdon Planing Mill Is showing somo furniture that Is being mado right hero at homo, which Is recommended recom-mended to the bellevors in home products pro-ducts The Utah Canning company has a 1 fine display of canned joods, including includ-ing catsups, baked beans, soup and hominy. One of the prettiest displays is that of the Ogden Steam Laundry, which is showing a full window of the finer sort ot garments which they have cleaned. Many stop to Inspect the different things In this display. The Glen Brothers Piano company is entirol up to the standard of the ball in Its piano display. It has a very prcttv exhibit Ogden Portland Cement. The Ogden Portland Cement company's com-pany's cement house at the Fair Is intended to show the possibilities for the ubo of cement In the construction of the home, the genoral design of the exhibit, after plans by au architect, archi-tect, showing threo sides of a room, each sldo built of a different typo of construction, including the roof. One side wall is built of hollow concrete con-crete blocks, the other is ot nature' color cement bricks, and the roof of rolnforcod concrete, and In each case tho end of tho wall Is left exposed to show tho actual construction. The mantel, seats, and flower vaees are all Intendod to show tho possibilities possibil-ities for the iimj of cement In ornamental orna-mental work and for decorative purposes. pur-poses. The mantel Is a particularly fine example of cast cement work, and was made on the ground by Messrs. Fox and Porottl of Salt Lake City Tho Ogden Portlnnd exhibit also includes in-cludes cement bricks in various colors, which arc manufactured by the Enamel Brirk & Concrete company of Salt Lake City. Ogden cement being used exclusively. Theso bricks are made under a pressure of 10.000 pounds per square inch, and are then cured In steam for about forty-eight hours. Thoy are being used by the government In the Salt Lake postof-fice postof-fice building, and the company has Just finished the Eleventh ward meeting house in Salt Lake, and has other contracts con-tracts to furnlbh cement brick for large ounaings, jncjuumg iue jum ward meeting house at Salt Uike and the now gymnasium for the Agricultural Agricul-tural college at Logan. These bricks can be mado in various colors, and arc sure to find a ready market. Tho exhibit also Include sewer pipe and drain tile mado of concrete, In all sizes from four to thlrty-slx inches. This concrete pipe is very strong and durable, and Is being used for Irrigation purposes in various places, and for sewer connections as woll as for tho wator system In Salt I-ako City Tho pipe Is manufactured In Salt Lake by the Utah Glaxod Cement Ce-ment Pipe company, using Ogden Portland Cement exclusively. |
