Show RAINES RELEASED FROM PRISON Osslnlng. N Y.',' Oct. 3. Captain Peter C. Halns, Jr., who killed William Will-iam E. Annls in August, 190S, received receiv-ed his pardon toda.v and loft Sins jSIns prison. Accompanied by his father, General Peter C. IJalns, U. S. A., retired, he took a train for New York city Halns' pardon was brought about mainly by the' efforts of his father. What finally caused the governor to act, however, was a petition signed bv all the Jurynpn who found him guilty of manslaughter. Ills sentence was not loss than eight nor more than sixteen years. Halns' defense at his trial was that a blow on the head when a boy had affected his mind His attorneys al30 declared he had been frenzied by stories of relations between Annls and Mrs. Haln i Hnlns i?ot a divorce from his wife last August. After his1 Imprisonment, Halns resigned re-signed from tho army. |
