Show H HOMESTEADING IN THE WEST. H The Borah homestead bill is still held in- conference, the point H of difference between the, senate and house being over the question H as to whether the law should be made retroactive and apply to H pending entries as well -as future homesteads. H The measure as framed by the Idaho senator would allow final j .- proof to be made within three years and cause a rush to be made H b' prospective homesteaders for land open to entry. H Ihc time Ives arrived when the old restrictions calling for five j years can be reduced to three years with the requirement of a H greatly reduced period of actual residence, without danger of the H public lands so located falling into the hands of monopolists or H speculators. The best western lands long since have been taken up H and the areas now open to entry should be made more inviting to j homesteaders by reducing the onerous demands of the present H homestead laws, y |
