Thoflrst point which the members of tho committee decided upon was that an oloctlon. rolative to tho liquor question shall be held In all the towns and cities of the state 90 days after tho adjournment of the logisla lure This the committee suggested would be about Juno 15, but this dato was not arbitrarily fixed Senator Badger resumed his fight to havo nil districts outside of towns nnd cities proclaimed as dry territory terri-tory without a vote of these districts nnd dampeued only after a voto of tho people Senator Kuchler opposed this proposition very vigorously and stated that he favored all the territory terri-tory of tho state remaining as it now Is until tho people of tho different units should voto for a change. The Badger motion was put to a voto of the committee and resulted in a tie, Bndger nnd Wootton sustaining sus-taining It and Kuchler nnd Pope voting vot-ing In the negative. This left tho matter to the chairman aud he decided de-cided that no territory should be considered con-sidered dry until it had been voted so by the people residing within Its boundaries. After some lengthy discussions It was decided that a petition containing tho names of 25 per cent of the voters vot-ers of any pnrticular district should be sufficient to call for a referendum of that district Further it was decided decid-ed that should a majority of tho voters vot-ers In the district cast "their ballots against tho sale of liquor then the district dis-trict shall be dry. It was arranged that should tho county outside of n city or town constituting con-stituting a unit vote wot and the town or city voto dry then no saloon sal-oon shall 1m? established within a radius of five miles from the corporation corpora-tion line of tho munlclpalty. The proposition of drug stores in dry districts handling liquor wns discussed dis-cussed but no definite action was taken tak-en on the matter. The committee adjourned ad-journed early this afternoon. Senator Kuchler presented a child labor law to the senate this afternoon. |
