Show IT IPSn M'IFflEM S 3aI3u (SouMrSsf It has been called to our attention that on Saturday, September 9, a meeting of the Old Folks of Cache County was called at the county court house for the purpose of instructing the pensioners to vote against the Republican party. We understand that this meeting was called by Robert Crookston and was instigated by a Mr. Siddoway from Salt Lake, evidently a political agent operating from the office of Herbert B. Maw. Said Siddoway is reported to have told the Old Folks that he personally is responsible for the sending of all the checks to the Old Folks in Cache County, and that if they vote the Republican ticket their pensions will be cut off immediately. j It is an insult to the intelligence of the Old Folks of this community to presume that they are so gullible as to believe this propaganda, but evidently evi-dently some are taking it seriously. Without commenting on the ethics employed by Robert Crookston and Mr. Siddoway in calling a meeting of the Old Folks without the sanction of the local Welfare Board, or in their using for this purpose the facilities of the court house which were lent to them by the Republican commissioners, we should like to make the following statement: j The Old Folks of Cache County are under a Republican-controlled Welfare Wel-fare Board in Cache County, and much of the funds used for Welfare purposes are alloted through a Republican-controlled County Board of Commissioners. The funds made available for old age assistance are not subject to the jurisdiction of either Robert Crookston or Mr. Siddoway. Siddo-way. These funds are guaranteed to the Old Folks under state and national na-tional laws and neither Mr. Siddoway nor any other individual can curtail cur-tail welfare expenditures. The Old Folks of Cache County may vote either the Republican or the Democratic ticket as they choose. Although both the Board of Commissioners Commis-sioners and the Cache County Welfare Board are controlled by Republicans, Repub-licans, we are making no effort to instruct the pensioners as to how they should vote, and we object very much to having anyone else try to do so. How you vote is your own business, subject only to the dictates of your conscience. It is necessarily s o, if we are to preserve our Democracy. Democ-racy.
