Show TAIITARY TRA3NIXG REGISTRATION MVi 1 Selective Service local boards of Utah are expected on July 1, to conduct the second registration registra-tion of young men eligible for military training Acting State Director H. A. Rich announced Xoday. Estimates by the Bureau of the Census in Washington, Li. C. indicate in-dicate that there will be about 4500 men registered in Utah on July 1, Major Rich asserted. "The majority of young men affected" he .said, will be registered regis-tered at tthe local board headquarters headquar-ters of the community in which they live. In the event, however, that local board offices are so situated that it would be difficult diffi-cult for registration to be conducted conduc-ted there without hardship to the registrants, other public buildings build-ings may be. used. This will be -particularly true in the more populous counties where it is anticipated an-ticipated that registrations may be ' heavy." Also the director said that in the more populous board areas, local boards may be authorized to enlist outside aid for the actual registration. Major Rich expressly called attention at-tention to the fact that when the first registration was conducted last October 16, young men of Utah were temporarily outside of the state in Schools, on missions, in temporary employment, and otherwise. In registering, many of them failed to give their home address as being in the State of of Utah. The result was that many of these young men found their cases permanently assigned to the addresses given in foreign States and there-after attempted to have their cases transferred to Utah boards. 1Z a Utah man temporarily tem-porarily absent from the state expects to be regarded as a Utah registrant, he must, at the time of registration, give his Utah address, ad-dress, and his case will then be handled by the appropriate board in Utah. He can then communi-cate communi-cate with his Utah board and give them his temporary address. Young men who are residing in foreign countries will not register regis-ter until after their return to the United States of its dominions. Much confusion and disappointment disappoint-ment will be avoided if relatives and friends of men temporarily out of the state will see that they are notified of the fact that that they shoud give their -home address in the state of Utah if they expect their cases to be considered and handled by Utah ' boards. When the first registration was conducted last October 16 many organizations outside the Selective Select-ive Service System gave us their "whole-hearted assistance, for which we are and will be everlastingly .grateful. It is not as yet determined deter-mined the extent to which the assistance of these groups may , be requested in conducting this registration in the more populous areas. However, in rural districts end in smaller boards it is believed be-lieved that bur own local boards will be able t6 conduct the second July 1, as ordered by the President Presi-dent Registrations will be conducted conduct-ed between the hours of 7:00 a. m. and 9:00 p. m., Acting State Director Rich pointed out. |
