": v " I j , . : ' : X . -' t -' r 'J ' ' j Blaine Smith Is Reported War Victim Victim of the war in the Philip-Tines Philip-Tines last week was Blaine Henry : Smith, 24, of Smithfield, son of Manfred and Mary A. Owen Smith, respected citizens of this community. The family received notification from the war department that Blaine was killed in action with the U. S. troops defending Ba-taan. Ba-taan. His was the fourth war death among Cache valley youths in the service. Blaine was born May 18, 1918, at Smithfield. He spent his youth there, and was a prominent mem-.ber mem-.ber of the Smithfield Third ward estemed by all who lenew him. He graduated from North Cache seminary and high school in 1936, and then accepted a call to the California misison field in 1939. He returned in April of 1941 after having fulfilled an ex-t-cellent mission. He enlisted with the U. S. army in July of last year, receiving training at Fort Douglas, and then was transferred to the Phillip-pines Phillip-pines in September. Survivors include his parents . and the following brothers and sisters: Byron Smith of Salt Lake 'City, Odell Smith of Amalga, Mrs- Ida Davidson and Mrs. Ruby Holmes of Los Angeles, Jewell, Clinton and Leatha Smith of Smithfield. |
