Show . 4 State Champion Calf Raiser Smithfield Boy Wins Utah Honors Arland Olson, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Olson, of Smithfield, has been named Utah's 4-H Hoi-stein Hoi-stein Calf Club Champion Boy for 1942 by The Holsteln-Fresian Association As-sociation of America. Arland has been in dairy club work for three years. His register- j ed Holsteins have been exhibited , at the Richmond Black and White Show and at the Cache County Fair, where he has won second, third and fourth prizes In both ! . 4-H Club and open classes. He has participated in numerous numer-ous local and county judging contests con-tests and in 1941 was a member of the Cache County team which judged at the Ogden Livestock Show. He also attended the 3-day Inter-county 4-H. camp held in Logan canyon last summer. In addition to his dairy club work, Arland did extensive Victory gardening last year ,and obtained such magnificent harvests as 1,200 pounds of potatoes, 300 pounds of onions, 40 cases of strawberries and 300 pounds of squash. Last fall he sold his first club heifer, which had then freshened, and bought war bonds with the money. He has further helped the war effort by assisting his father in gathering 1 tons of scrap metal. Arland is now eligible for consideration con-sideration for the National Hol-stein Hol-stein Calf Club Championship to be announced soon by The Hol-stein-Friesian Association of America. |
