Show WE AGREE Professor E. H. Reeder of the University of Illinois does not believe in stirring up hate in children. Teaching Teach-ing hatred of Japanese or of Nazis arouses emotional prejudices which are likely to be carried into the postwar post-war world and actually prevent the peace we want to accomplish. The better way, says the professor, is to inspire with an intense devotion to the American way of life. This is true of solders, as well. A bomber who destroys a war plant, a troop train, or a concentration of materials is not necessarily impelled im-pelled by motives of hatred. His feeling is likely to be quite impersonal. The armed forces of the United Nations destroy military machines and their agencies in order that the way of freedom may be preserved. They are merely removing obstacles in the road to progress, and they can undertake the job with .spirit because of what they are fighting to save. |
