Show Clubs Present Ambulance To U. S. Army Featured event of opening day of National 4-H Mobilization Week, February 6 to 14, will ' be the presentation of an ambulance to the U. S. Army on behalf of the youth of this largest of rural organizations. ,. This is the second ambulance to be contributed to the war effort by the 4-H clubs of the country, according to Miss Fern Shipley and David Sharp Jr., assistant state 4-H leaders for Utah. The first one was presented to the American Red Cross during the 1942 National Club Congress last December. In addition to the army and the Red Cross ambulances which cost $1,600 and $1,500, respectively, the nation's 4-H clubs have also contributed con-tributed $450 to the American Red Cross for the purchase of 450 soldiers' comfort kits. Utah 4-H clubs along with those in all 40 states have raised funds for the ambulances and kits through the collection of scrap metal, phonograph records and rubber, thus making a "double-barreled" "double-barreled" contribution to the war effort, explained the state 4-H leaders. Proceeds have also come from box socials, benefit programs, prize money and by direct contributions. |
