Show Board Asks Citizens to Cooperate In Rubber-Gasolin e Rationing j - Urge Requests Only ' For Essentials ''" i ... ' I Some comments and advertising recently have given people in ' Cache valley 'the feeling that the I critical rubber situation is "practically "prac-tically solved" and; consequently the demand for new rubber prod-lucts prod-lucts and relaxation in the useage and care has been noted, O. Guy j Cardon, chairman of the Cache ' county war price and rationing board declared today. I In a nation-wide broadcast on ljune 13, 1943 the following ques-. tions were asked and answered by Rubber Director William M. ' Jeers: j 1. When will we be in the clear j so far as military and essential civilian needs are concerned? (That is regarding rubber and rubber products.) Mr. JefTers' answer was, "We shall supply rubber for all military, mili-tary, and lend-lease requirements this year. We feel that we can supply essential civilian requirements, require-ments, but and this is important import-ant by essential civilian requqire-ments requqire-ments is emant the conveyance of farmers and their produce, workers work-ers to and fgrom their places of employment, and other uses ' of equal necessity. By the fall of 1944, if we have no major setbacks set-backs and there are none in sight at this time I believe we can safely forget the rubber prob-J:m prob-J:m so far as essential supply is concerned. The big problems ahead are the facilities, equipment, and manpower to process rubber into essential products." Then Mr. Jeffers was asked, "Do you anticipate that rationing of tires for civilians can be abolished abol-ished in the near future'.'" Mr. Jeffers replied: "I believe that tire rationing should and will be continued until production of rubber and tires has reached a point where every driver is assured that he can have tires available when he definitely needs them to continue driving." The third question, "What can civilians do to help conserve rubber?" to which Mr. Jeffers answered: "The fundamental conservation con-servation measures which have been so widely publicized are still sound policy for every American motorist (that is moderate driving, driv-ing, elimination of non-essential driving, avoidance of fast turns, rough roads, bumps, etc.) Above all he should never permit his tires to wear down to the point where they no longer can be recapped. re-capped. Ne wtires will be issued only when old ones are no longer recappable." In view of the above statements the Cache County Rationing board expects to continue to administer lire and gasoline rationing policies poli-cies strictly in accordance with the regulations and instructions established by the national office. Charles Olsen, chairman of the tire and gasoline rationing committee, com-mittee, said this morning that, new tires will be issued only when existing ones are no longer useable or recappable. The Cache county rationing board asks the citizens of the county to cooperate in this all out war effort and make only those requests for supplementary gasoline and additional rubber that are vital to essential industry. |
