Show your home and you e 0 fir MUM 40 f I 1 by betsy callister Cal litter SOME USEFUL HINTS IP p YOU want to use soup stock without waiting tor for the grease to harden take a rather long piece of ice dip it in the stock and then scrape off the grease that adheres to tho the sides repeat repent this several times and most of the grease will hare have been removed if you have bare no ice a piece of c clean cheesecloth in cold water and strain the stock through it dip the cloth in to very hot mater to take off the grease wet again with cold water and strain a second time and practically all the grease will be removed if the soup stock Is too salt ilice slice a raw potato into it and it will ab much of the salt if custard curdles slightly through too long cooking mix wit a little cornstarch in cold water abot about ahall a halt teaspoonful to a pint of and stir into the custard and cook over a low flame just lon too enough to cook the custard it you want to peel tomatoes to use at once and have no time to re chill them after dipping in hot wa ter rub over the skin with the back of the paring knife this loosens the skin almost as well as scalding it if you want to have a gelatin dessert set more quickly than Is pos sible in the refrigerator set the dish containing tho the mixture la in a large pan and surround the dish with chopped ice and salt ice cream ball salt is cheaper for this purpose but in an emergency any sort of salt will answer the purpose a aist newspaper 8 I 1 I 1 sen ice 1 |
