Show COPPER PLAYERS LOSESFiRST JDNE Sigma Chi Quintet Win 37 to 34 Victory Vic-tory from Utah Copper Five in First Tilt of Season for Miners. Roscoe Sorenson's Utah Copper basketball players went down to defeat de-feat Tuesday evening of this week at the Gemmcll Memorial gym when the Sigma Chi hoopsters landed on top of a 37 to 34 score before an audience that filled every seat in the spacious auditorium. Considering it the first game of the season for the Miners, they did fairly well, although lack of practice was made evident during the evening when many set ups were missed. The visitors, who are playing under the name of Sigma Chi might well be called the AH Stars, as the team is composed of some of the best basketball basket-ball talent in the state, and although their team work is not at mid-season form as yet, never the less they clearly clear-ly demonstrated that they are far over rhe average quintet. . Joe Christensen and Max Foote, the two lads who caused the L. D. S. controversy con-troversy last year are both members of the Sigma Chi team, and Christensen Christen-sen gave one of the greatest floor exhibitions ex-hibitions ever seen in Bingham Canyon. Can-yon. The score book shows that Joe rustled the ball more than any other member of the team, although "Red" Wood, center of the team lead the scoring with a total of IS points, while Joe made but 9. Christensen, however, was in possession of the ball moie than the entire team combined, having tried for field goals no less than 33 times during the contest. Pete Dow, erstwhile star of the Jordan Jor-dan High team, and now with the Copper Quintet was the chief score man for the Miners with a total of 13 points. ' Dow is still far from mid-season mid-season form, although his play Tuesday Tues-day evening showed him to be fast rounding into, tip; top' condition. "Brig" Knudsen played agreaf floor game, but missed many easy shots during the game, which, of course, will be remedied with a little more practice. . The Sigma Chi bunch led at the first quarter, 4 to 3, and then both teams started to score, the visitors making 13 in the second quarter as to 12 for the locals. The score at the end of the first half read 17 to IS in favor o,the Tauffer tribe. ,, , The Miners managed to lead in the scoring in the third session by making mak-ing 13, while the Sigma gang made but 11, but the last quarter showed the visitors with lots of pep," while the locals were fast losing their steam. The Sigma lads made 9 in the last quarter, as to 6 for the Copper team. Jerry Dunn, star center of last year's Copper team, who has been under un-der the weather for the past week, managed to play part of the second half, but had to get out before the game ended on account of personal' fouls.
