Show chudars are released on local range two hundred chuker partridges were released this past week in morgan county according to gilbert porter state fish and game department part ment warden in this area the birds are the second group to be released in the county about were given their freedom here last march the jack kippen range in east canyon was the releasing point last week so that local residents may know what this game bird looks like mr porter has given the following information both sexes of the chuker partridge are very much alike in appearance though the male bird Is somewhat larger and has rounded nodes for spurs As to color back and tail are bluish grey with the outer tail feathers chestnut brown the breast is of a bluish grey hue the belly a pale buff throat is white and Is surrounded by a blade black band that passes passe across the breast and up through the eyes to the bill the bill and legs are a dark red native range of the chuk chuker er la is throughout asia with some types being found in europe spain italy and greece they weigh about IS ounces fifteen percent of the land area in utah is made up of the type lands that are known to good chuker habitat this compares with less than two percent of the states land area that is good pheasant habitat 33 both 0 t h of the departments two bird farms are now being devoted to the raising of chakers for stocking in chosen planting sites this program Is now in its third year plants la in numbers approximately birds to the release have been and will continue to be made in the future mr air porter advises to date nearly chakers have been relga released sed into 19 chosen areas this is expected to be doubled by next years program real heal success of the chuker program will be shown when anticipated hunting takes place within the next five years said mr air porter |
