Show brothers make enviable record ta 0 row 14 t X va MF Z 0 gene winchester received 1952 state farmer degree I 1 sa V 0 stephen winchester Wincheste rv 53 candidate for state farmer gene arid and stephen winchester have made an outstanding lecont rd while enrolled in vocational agriculture at the morgan ili high gh school sons of mr and mrs austin winchester of mountain green gene and steve have been active in many phases of the vocational agriculture programs including exhibiting judging activities in ili the future farmer organization and livestock raising the brothers enrolled I 1 in ti vocational agriculture at the morgan high school in the fall of 1949 duding dm ing the three years they have engaged iu in such livestock enterprises as beet beef poultry swine and dairy they have marketed in this period pounds of beet beef pounds ot of pork dozen eggs and 1350 pounds of butter buffer fa fat t with a gross sale of always interested ja in livestock the boys have become keen judges as evidenced by their consistently high scores in livestock and dairy judging contests gene was high individual in livestock judging in the state future farmer contest during his sophomore year the brothers were members of the livestock team representing morgan Alor gaii high school which won first place in 1951 judging contest sponsored by the utah state agri cult uarl college steve was high individual scorer in this contest gene and steve also participated in the state future farmer fanner livestock judging in may of 1952 where they were members of 0 the morgan team placing third in a contest in which 45 teams were contesting also interested in the future farmer fanner organization the boys have progressed through the degrees ot of green hand and chapter farmer gene was awarded the degree of state farmer in april of this year the state farmer degree being the highest honor the state association an confer upon any body in the Iza tion stephen viii ivill be a candidate andi date for the degree in the pring of 1953 the state organization Is allow d to confer the degree of state anner only upon two tavo percent of the he state membership A boy to qualify quality must have been active in he F F A for at least two years ind and held the degree of chapter firmer farmer for or at least one year preceding election to the degree of 0 state farmer the candidates must have had in operation an outstanding supervised farming program while in a high school also having demonstrated skill in leadership in school and community activities colv sties steve and gene have been enthusiastic livestock exhibitors at tile the carious arious shows throughout the state including the plain city dairy show the ogden livestock show the utah state fair and the morgan county fair they have won on anany awards in III showmanship and excellent livestock entries gene received the lions club award ot of 23 25 for being the outstanding exhibitor in ili the future farmer division in the 1850 1950 county fair after graduation from high school in the spring of 1953 the joys boys anticipate attending colleda for some special training in live stock production gene was winner of 0 the union pacific r scholarship and steve the alternate for the year 1951 52 |
