Show still record pack of snow on weber river shed snow surveys just completed by the soil conservation service reveal yea that there is still a record snow pack in the high areas ac chiding to horace andrews conservationist at morgan at the high course in fast east fork of chalk creek near the blue lakes country there is inches of snow with inches of moisture this in only three inches binche less moisture than a month ago last year on I 1 may I 1 there was inches of moisture at the intermediate east fork course the water content cor as inches compared with 90 inches a year ago and inches a month ago at the low course just below red hole the snow has practically disappeared A month ago the water content here was inches other courses on the weber river drainage tell an even more striking story at smith and more louse house the water content was inches compared to 48 inches cinches last year redden mine upper course I 1 has inches water compared to inches a year ago redden mine lower is against last year trial lake moisture content is inches compain compared ed to a year ago on parleys canyon summit on the east canyon drainage the moisture content is inches against only 29 inches last i ear none ot of these courses had may 1 measurements prior to 1951 so no long time comparison is possible for this time of the year however the april I 1 measurements it will be recalled were considerable higher than the long time averages and higher than 1950 the year of high runoff in recent times gregory L pearson irrigation engineer tor for the lie soil conservation in charge of the surveys pointed out that while it is ia expected that the peak flow of the weber will be higher than in recent times including 1950 it is imposible impossible impo sible to say definitely by how much as it depends considerably on temperatures for the next month it is possible pos bible to predict quite accurately the total yield from the drainage tor lor the whole year this report will be issued shortly |
