Show happily surprised morgan L D S stake president given coveted primary award through the efforts of the children and primary officers of morgan stake by sponsoring parades bazaars etc they were able to donate over and recently le ie calved their souvenir paper weight fiam the general primary board the souvenir idea originated at a birthday party held several years ago at the hotel utah on the occasion of the sand birthday of the late pres heber J grant when he be was presented with a gift of a large beehive in which was concealed a chest made of utah copper containing 1000 silver dollars made of utah silver in the presence of over persons pres grant expressed his bis appreciation and asked that the money be used toward the building of a new primary childrens hospital ile he live long enough to see this accomplished the primary general board carried out his wish they had each silver dollar made into a paper weight and planned that whoever donated the donor would be presented with the weight as a sou benir because of the love and respect for morgan stake president clarence D rich it was decided to present him with the souvenir which was presented the local primary organization tor for its contribution to the general primary board on wednesday night feb 21 at union meeting mrs betty me charn chain was chosen from ward primary presidents to make the presentation sen tation to president rich who was surprised ind and happy to receive it and in turn made a most impressive talk to the caldren mrs catherine tucker gave a talk to those present on the spirit of giving the text which follows february brings us the golden opportunity of serving and giving in the spirit of love for it Is the month when our thoughts turn to the primary childrens hospital and the service that we can render to help our unfortunate children in the life ot of our savior no service was more touching or more important than the blessing of little children and the caring for the sick and afflicted through our unselfish efforts we too can help the blind to see and the lime lame to walk the savior spent his whole life giving and doing for others so let us remember member le the greatest commandment man dment of all to love the lord thy god with all thy heart mind and might and to love thy neighbor as thyself for love Is the greatest influence in the human life and because it Is I 1 would like to give you the miracle of giving long long ago the creator and master of love and life placed la ju the eyes of his people a gleam of gladness like unto the brilliance of the stars when the work was good all men should reflect the light of love in their eyes but then there came a day when the e eyes Y es of men hold held little light and deep despair had dimmed the radiance in the eyes of his people again and again the creator looked for the lost brilliance tor for hope pleasure and good living but he looked ilvain In vain ills his people became sad suspicion hate and fear crept into their hearts then the cr creator bator demanded that the grain and the fruits ot of the land bring forth abundant harvest so that his people would become rich but with richness evil only grew then jealousy hate and darkness be clouded the land one day the creator spied a child who laughed and in whose eyes shone the lost brilliance of love and on his lips was a song why do you laugh my child he asked ah I 1 have found a jewel of sapphire flame and I 1 shall give it to my mother and then she too will sing and be happy 1 night came and the all wise creator laid within the heart of every man woman and child th the a seed of giving for tomorrow my people will awaken with the gift of giving then joy shall reign again upon the earth so the strange impulse of giving stirred within the hearts of all morning came and the tanner farmer said we must carry corn com to our poor neighbor whose crop was destroyed by the wind and I 1 will make them a cake said his bis wife and I 1 called the little boy will take them my overcoat for their child so the seed of giving grew and as the farmer looked at his bar barna ns he said for each stock that I 1 give there seems to be a new one return that Is the heart bursting the bounds of smallness said his bis wife for what we give we keep and ama what we keep we lose and so in the eyes of the people gleamed the jewels of the morning and the miracle of giving was born born of love tor for love cannot live without gi giving vi n g |
