| Show ROBERT SHERWOOD BACK HOME WITH ACCOUNT OF experiences IN washington explorer scout robert sherwood returned home sunday after a week of thrills and almost unbelievable liev alle experiences high lighted by the fact that he stood in the presence of the president of the united states knowing that he was there representing his organization troop of morgan n the ogden area and region twelve of the boy scouts of america it was early sunday february 5 that robert took his I 1 seat on the plane slid and arrived in I 1 washington that same evening from then on every minute of his time was scheduled from breakfast until late each night of this wonderful thrill packed week at brea breakfast keast monday morning he met the other 11 boys who were to be his companions and the two executives who piloted the boys while they were the guests of the national annual evenar event one of the first duties was tile alie rehearsal of the presenting of the reports to to the president after which came a tour to Ai lington cemetery and the tomb of the unknown S soldier this was followed by a visit to tile the F B 1 I head headquarters where they introduced personally to J edgar Il hoover A lunch at the capitol where they were the guests of senator humphrey of minnesota they participated in a flag lais isis ing carem ceremony ony at the pentagon building where the they y met the secretary of the navy and the flag of each state was raised by the boys of that section of the united S stales t ates and wednesday was the big day when in the presence of tile the chief executive they gave their reports president truman presented each boy with a pen that he had used only once in signing sonie some particular bill for a souvenir from then on was one round of sight ight seeing eating strange foods and meeting important people they visited the U S mint blint were taken on oil a trip to mt bit vernon flew to philadelphia participated in a ceremony at the library bell taken to valley foi forge ge where they listened to lectures and then on to new york here they went to the top of the empire state building which takes five elevators to reach to rockefeller center and the N B C studios where they met well known people of the radio A trip on the subway took them to the bowery and chinese food in chinatown on oil friday evening the twelve boys headed a parade the torch of L liberty later to radio city to witness a wonderful show the national officers of the boy scouts of america a presented ro robert b with a ranger badge the only one later a trip to the statue of lib eity city which gave the boys one of their greatest greate ht thrills and saturday there was time off for a little shopping when the group visited maceys maceya store considered si the largest in the world sunday found a tiled but starry eyed young scout on the plane fly ing ine back to utah and home when asked which was his greatest thrill robert answer of couise meeting tile the president his companions were fine boys and robert sherwood expressed his appreciation of the great honor which came to him through the boy scout organization of america |
