Show policy of disruption the soft coal industry is a perfect example of industrial caos no one knows from one week to the next whether all f the mines will work whether some of the mines will work whether none of the mines will work or if the miners will follow fallow a three day week a five day week or a no day week this sort of disruption has been john L lews lewis fixed polley policy it is apparently his method of demonstrating that he is coals czar recently a biffi large ge number of soft coal companies have filed petitions wilh the national labor relations board charging mr air lewis with unfair labor practices coercion and refusal to bargain in good faith the mine operators have repeatedly offered to sign a contract continuing the wage rates established in 1948 which are e the highest in major industry they are willing to continue the same hours and to provide other benefits including a sound pension welfare and group insurance plan this is even a better contract than that of last year which union officials r called the best ever negotiated but mr lewis will vill not agree so consumers are deprived of coal miners are deprived of work and production costs in this hard pressed industry are skyrocketing rocketing sky this ruthless use of monopoly power must be stopped in the interest of every group in the country including labor itself |
