| Show trojans lose to cyprus on october 12 by dan sommers the morgan high school trojans met the cyprus pirates in in a midweek mid week thriller wednesday october 12 32 the field was rain soaked although none fell during the game this slowed up both back fields so that it was difficult to get rolling although the powerful gliates ates running from a deceptive spinning double wing formation made tade ll 11 first downs to morgans 7 one 0 ne break of the game proved t the h e difference cyprus used it to good advantage and took the encounter 70 7 0 after kicking off the morgan team held the pirates for two plays then they surprised the trojans by quick kicking deep into morgan territory after two plays the trojan team attempted a quick kick themselves but the hard charging cyprus line blocked and recovered on the morgan one yard line on the next play the pirates scored on a line plunge the con e 0 n version was good making the score 70 7 0 early in the first quarter it was a seesaw see saw battle the rest of the quarter with neither team threatening to score Ali minutes later in the s second quarter the pirates made a drive for the goal line only to be stopped on the I 1 5 yard line as the alert morgan line led by wayne turner recovered a fumble after that neither team moved the ball very far until a spark hit the trojan crew late in the third quarter led by the morgan backs with loosli around the ends and mikesell and abbott smashing the line the morgan drive was on only to be slowed up by the gun ending the third quarter in the fourth canto the trojans deep in pirate territory found the sparkling drive slipping from them as a penalty set them back on the fourth down the trojans came out of the huddle with grint grim dete determination amin loosli faded back to pass to kent smith into the end zone zon e the ball went like an arrow straight for smith who was on his knees in the end zone it was one of those that looked as if it could not have been missed but in that spot it was easier than ever as the ball hobbled bobbled away and fell to the ground |
