Show LINES BY LIZA its just as much fun as we thought it would be it folks there is nothing to compare with a morgan county fair and the parade we dont have a parade very often but when we do rowdy dow I 1 liked it better than the salt lake city dqra dd gus backa backman n d 0 esh I 1 f rea t is more interesting though when you know the people who are taking part and the effort it represents verl poll and betty mecham did such a splendid job of assembling sem bling the whole event that I 1 think we should delegate them as parade masters and have a parade every year you know I 1 remember the last parade we had bad years ago it was quite a parade we worked like maniacs to decorate a float for the store we finally produced a harvest barvest scene on a hayrack with shocks of corn pumpkins autumn leaves and yards and yards of crimson gold and brown crepe paper it was quite a spectacle we thumb tacked together came the morning of the parade no sunshine uh uh just dark ominous clouds it had rained during the previous night and the air was heavy and humid you never saw an autumn scene so utterly bogged down as our creation was the crepe paper ribbons hung in in crazy irregular festoons fes as though we had aimed them at 50 paces As the line of march proceeded to the halfway half way stage the sullen sky opened up with another deluge whereupon our glorious autumn practically dissolved and ran together the impervious pumpkins came through without the slightest change and I 1 resolved right then that if I 1 ever had anything to do with designing another float id decorate it entirely with pumpkins it might be a good idea I 1 think one of the finest things t to come out of the whole centennial celebration in so far as we here in morgan county are concerned is the souvenir history of morgan county I 1 know that most of you have seen copies of it by now and realize that a valuable keepsake it is is too few of us have known or have appreciated our colorful past in a local sense enough cannot be said in appreciation of the valuable work mrs airs chadwick has done voluntarily in ferreting out the facts and fancies of our early beginning in this valley and then spending the many many hours necessary to compile them and present them in readable form As the years pass by the balue value of her generous effort will increase increase however to mrs airs virginia epperson must go credit for the idea of presenting mrs airs chad wicks history in a book form thus making it available to all of us she too has put in many hours of work these past weeks planning blannin 9 all the minute details which makes makes it such a praiseworthy accomplishment those things do not just happen all the pertinent little black and white sketches throughout the book for instance are the original work of mrs airs Ep persons artist mother our editor al epperson comes into the picture ure too but blest if I 1 know where maybe he printed the book anyhow its a great job and am something we shall all keep along side our family records and bibles I 1 ive got to hurry and get up to the fair I 1 have a beelin im missing something dont ea too many hot dogs |
