Show activities and plans of morgan soil dist farmers of the morgan soil conservation district anxious to get their land ready for peak production next year will ill spend considerable time this winter and next spring improving their irrigation systems and applying applei ng other conservation practices ray II 11 K kerr err district conservationist stated today irrigation farmers know that they must make efficient use of land and water to meet 1947 crop goals he said for that reason land leveling rearrangement of ditches installation of proper turnout boyes boles length of run and other irrigation problems are now receiving serious consideration on many farms in the district the only way to cheat soil erosion and to keep the land producing year after year mr air ke kerr said is to have fields leveled to non grades also the farmer must have absolute control of irrigation water so that ho he will neither over irrigate nor under irrigate his crops the primary aim in irrigation he stated is to get uniform application of water to the depth of the plant roots and no deeper by over irrigating the farmer wastes water a leaches out valuable soil minerals water logs land and scalds his crops by under irrigating his crops fail to produce maximum maximum yields the morgan district has some machinery which is leased eased to farmers on a day basis and is greatly speeding up the improvement of irrigated land this equipment includes two land planes two turnover scrapers a hydraulic lift scraper a ditcher and a wheel type tractor the morgan soil conservation district has the services of a farm planner and an engineer who are working daily with farmers in planning soil conservation improvements any farmer who needs technical assistance in the solution of water or soil conservation problems should contact the district office in morgan |
