Show j washington I 1 i i I 1 NEWS LETTER j i I 1 ia I 1 ily y congressman GRANGER I 1 M y y congress to reconvene september fifth the ending of the war with japan was the means of cutting short the congressional recess that normally awauld have extended to october eighth but now as I 1 write this letter I 1 am on my way to washington where the congress will convene september fifth next to the speedy return of our fighting forces and their general well being perhaps the most important thing in the mind of utahna is the future of the geneva steel plant of all the war installations in utah this was the most expensive plant for ane ne Covern government ment lo 10 build costing almost million dollars the people of utah can rightfully expect their delegation in the nations capitol to work tirelessly for continuance as a peace time industry one of the first legislative problems to be tackled by the congress that effects the nation as a whole is the so called full employment bill while it is of great importance and nearly everyone agrees that continued maximum employment is necessary yet because of the many differences of opinion that will arise it looks as if there will be prolonged arid and vigorous debate over this proposed legislation the of war plants back to peace time production and the sale of billion dollars of surplus property will receive much attention perhaps additional legislation will be necessary in order to dispose of all this property in an e equitable q bitable way the closing of the relocation center at topaz in millard county by the government Is of great importance not only to millard county but to the state as well the sale of the land and water acquired by the government for this project affords an opportunity to utilize the water on land that will be suitable upon which to establish farms and homes before this session of congress closes undoubtedly additional legislation will be passed to authorize and appropriate money for our postwar post war road build building I 1 ng program as well as reclamation cla clar mation nation and flood control projects which have already been approved these projects will require appropriations amounting to millions of dollars annually to be spent in utah and will furnish employment to thousands |
