| Show TWO RANGE FIRES RUIN WINTER FEED morgan countes Coun tys fire fighting forces were mobilized last weer end to help put out two fast moving range tires fires in the porterville porter ville urea ralph orton 19 year old son of thomas orton set fire to some weeds on his fathers farm last friday morning but the weeds were drier and burned taster faster than he had expected before the fire was brot under control 35 acres of range land were burned over and the sheriff fry had called out a firefighting fire fighting crew of 24 C C C boys to b help ep put out the blaze the orton fire had burned several hours and spread over a wide front before it was sighted by W morgan residents who called it to the attention of the sheriff A handmade hand made cigarette was blamed tor for a fire which got out of control on the dan carter farm saturday morning mr fry roy M orten morten sen tenant and orvllle orville fry put out the blaze after it had burned over about two acres mrs elmer lewis aided in the control of this fire by her prompt action in reporting it to the S C S office the orton fire rekindled saturday afternoon and was put out by the sheriff and his crew as they returned from the carter fire mr fry says it right for anyone to set a fire in morgan county wil bout a permit from the sheriffs office and I 1 think it would be very unwise to issue a permit for a tire ire during this dry spell |
