Show employment problems presented to board the fact that there are so few commercial industries in morgan county leaves an over supply of labor the rural youth and labor problems of the county were surveyed by mrs bessie thurston and a report made to the county planning board mrs thurston pointed put ut corp morp that the population of morgan county has been almost stationary since 1910 in 1930 the population was given as 2542 in 1930 it was 2536 and there has been little or no hange change since that time in compiling the report made by mrs thurston county agent C R richards states that these figures indicate that the population or of morgan county has not increased dur during the past 25 years there is nothing in the county to hold an increasing population and people are moving away each year to find employment the following information was taken from mrs thurstons Thurs tons report in 1936 to produce and care tor for what we have in the county there were needed man work days in 1935 days worked for pay of oft f I 1 farms were total days used total available in 1935 were days leaving an excess of man work days in the county during the year or approximately men more than needed for the work available the number of young married men in the county without land or employment is 32 number of such single men 33 in addition to this there are boys in high school who could have part time work and who within the next year or two will also be on farms without employment morgan county according to the committee should develop new resources and create employment locally for the young men inen and others of the county who are without work |
