Show report made on weed acreage seed production in the county and the noxious weed situation were reported by howard francis chairman of this committee at the meeting of the county planning board recently held mr francis states that the noxious weed problem in morgan county is becom ming ver very y serious the committee believes the weeds could be controlled with full cooperation from all agencies farmers must carry on a united and persi persistent stant campaign to control the weeds the best estimate available on weed acreage gives the following acres morning glory acres canada thistle 50 acres white top 25 acres russian knapweed acres ground cherry most noxious weeds in the county have been planted with farm and garden seeds committee recommends enforcement of state see seed laws and an educational campaign among farmers on the use of good quality seed eed through its locations as well as climatic and soil conditions the county is well suited to the production of high quality seed in 1937 fifteen growers produced 50 acres of certified seed potatoes while one grower grew mi 8 acres of certified grain only those who are interested and willing to give proper care to the crops should attempt certified seed it is believed that seed growing could be expanded it if proper methods and regulations are strictly adhered to |
