Show trade commission apparently ready to help open coalville Co alville coal mines following three years of inactivity vl ty this week the summit county bee received the following announce ment from the trade commission of utah regarding the possibility of reopening the grass creek mine at its regular meeting held sept 22 the trade commission of utah considered the request of mr paul hunt lor for assistance in bringing about the reopening of the mine of the grass creek fuel company located near Co coalville alville mr hunt outlined to the commission the necessity tor for securing sc ecung ung former markets tor for this coal and urged that the Commis commission slon use its influence in this connection this commission formally resolved to cooperate with and assist i those interested in n the reopening of this mine the commission I 1 feels i that such an undertaking involving the employment of from sixty five to a hundred men la is a uy ity imposed by the trade commis 1 slon act every effort will wil I 1 be made to contact former purchasers of the Co coalville alville coal for the purpose of convincing them of the importance I 1 to the community and state of the continued operation of this mine the executive secretary was in j strutted ted by the commission to advise you of its action and to extend the full cooperation of the commission personnel to the people of Co Coal alville vUle in bringing about this much to be dedred re employment of Co coalville alville citizens 11 the possibility of reopening the coal mine of the grass creek fuel company has been considered at various times since mining operations ceased september 1 1934 due to strike for the past three years there has been no activity at the mine and the crew of workmen formerly employed there has been forced to thid find work in other places the weekly payroll of from sixty five to a hundred men meant tetter better bus ness neiss for the f firms of this vicinity and it meant a livelihood for that many families to say that the closing of the mine hurt the business of Co coalville Coal alville vUle would be putting it mildly A community of this size can ill afford to lose one of Us essential means of support the reopening of this mine would do untold good to this city and county summit county bee |
