Show hearing set for nov 14 on market agreement A public hearing to consider con sider a proposed market agreement and order for onions grown in utah wil be held in the A assembly room state dept of agriculture capitol capital bids salt lake city utah beginning at a m november Nove Nover mger riger 14 the agricultural adjustment administration announced today the program proposed in the agreement ere gre ement and order would make it possible for the industry to adjusts adjust shipments more nearly in keep keeping ingi with the market requirements for various grades and sizes of onions and would provide for cooperation with the secretary of agriculture in any program for the removal of surplus su plus onions from normal market channels under provisions of section 32 of the amendments to the agricultural adjustment act approved august 1935 administration of the program would be through a control board which ch would consist of 4 shippers and 7 producers in addition to administering the program the control board could cooperate with the control board of any other onion market agree agreement merrt program or with handlers operating ope ralin g under any such program for onions produced in other areas the proposed program under the marketing agreement and order was developed at the request of both growers and shippers of onions in utah production of onions in the state for 1936 is estimated at over 20 per cent above the record production of 1928 arid over 50 per cent greater than the average production during the 5 yea year period 1931 35 this large production in utah is in keeping with the largest national production on record in the united states for this tear year it is estimated that practically all of the onions shipped by rail from utah are unloaded in out ot of state markets the most important outlet are the cities in the midwestern and southern states |
