Show storage S borage for 1937 1 now exceeds feet after the best irrigation season i in a number of years there will be a carryover in the principal res of the state of i abely acre feet of water 1 which will be a valuable insurance against a possible water shortage next summer this was announced tuesday by state engineer T H humpherys after making tabulations from figures received by the various water commissioners he said the major part of the irrigating for 1936 has been completed but it will be necessary to apply a small amount of water to the sugar beets to facilitate their digging some water also will have to be used on stubble land on which young alfalfa has been planted it was reported by mr humpherys that on most of the irrigation systems water has been plentiful this summer and crops have been excellent this is a sharp I 1 contrast to sections of the middle west which experienced one of the worst droutha in history the estimated amounts of holdover water ln in the various reservoirs are ar I 1 utah lake acre feet bear lake feet hyrum reservoir acre feet echo and east can j yon reservoirs acre feet i field reservoir acre feet I 1 and rocky ford reservoir acre feet the carryover in strawberry reservoir Is not estimated this season there have been diverted from utah lake and jordan river approximately acre feet and acre feet remain for the use of salt lake city and the watering of beets and alfalfa irrigation probably will continue until november 1 |
