Show PUBLIC ATTITUDE HELPS THE BANKS annual bankers convention says say people have had confidence restored recommends changed charged government policy the restoration 0 public confidence in banking has put it in the position where it can unction function ully fully and vigorously in playing its lull full economic part in the pro greo ot of recovery said the american bankers association in its annual convention resolutions the passage of 0 a generally constructive banking law in the banking act of 0 1935 has stabilized the banking situa tion and enabled bankers to devote un divided attention to the normal admin adain ot of their institutions in pro moling the business and public welfare 0 of f their communities the resolutions said we feel eel that it Is particularly im feature ot of this lav that it alms to create through the revision ot of the federal reserve board a supreme court of 0 finance which with the nou political appointment ot of exceptionally competent men should constitute one ot of the greatest forward steps in build ing a sound banking and credit system for or this country the government io in banking another resolution said we particularly emphasize the desirability sir of the retirement of govern ment from those fields of extending credits of various types which can be adequately served by privately owned institutions we that exigencies of the now passing depres slon made necessary a large partle ipa tion by government for or a time in the task of meeting the publics emergency financial needs those condit conditions ionE have boon largely remedied and he aie obligation now resta upon the banks and other financial agencies to demonstrate to the people of 0 this country that they are ully fully able and willing to meet all demands upon them for or sound credit cooperation it Is our duty as bankers to facilitate in every effective way the retirement of government agencies from credit ac tivi tivIt ties les by promoting public understanding ot of the proper unction function ot of privately owned tanking |
