| Show I 1 pioneer leader in city affairs called thomas uttley butters 82 morgan county pioneer and civic leader died saturday morning march 28 at the family home in morgan after an illness of eight days among the public offices which mr butters held during his long residence over 60 years in morgan county were those of morgan morga 11 county commissioner morgan city councilman trustee of the county school board superintendent for 37 years of the east canyon creek dam of the davis and weber counties canal company and county road supervisor up lor for 22 years mr butters was born in norfolk england april 8 1854 a son of william and mary alary johnson butters he came to utah with his parents parent in 1869 on the first union pacific train ever to enter the state and moved with them to morgan county two years later he married sarah emma baker in the old salt lake city endowment house in 1872 he was a member of the seventies quorum of the morgan L D S stake he was employed on construction of railroads and of the east canyon creek dam he was a farmer fanner and stoc kraiser of prominence surviving are his widow eight sons and daughters daug gh thomas W and dalbert B butters and mrs A C welch of morgan kenneth butters of salt lake laze city mrs hazel ranson and ernest E and jack butters of ogden and newell B butters of green geen river wyo 50 grandchildren and 38 great grand arand children funeral services were conducted monday at 2 p in in the morgan tabernacle by bishop howard francis of the morgan ward the order of the services was as follows song son abide with me mixed quartet prayer richard 11 rich song nearer my aly god to thee mixed quartet it it life sketch R R fry duet jesus lover of my soul mrs flaurie E white and mrs myrtle richards remarks E T elleson solo mrs bertha porter remarks thomas palmer remarks apostle melvin J bala ballard song rest rest for the weary soul benediction george turner the grave was dedicated by he H B crouch |
