| Show 1600 SMALL FOREST PLANTED IN MORGAN C approximately 1600 small forest trees have been planted on morgan county f farms arms during the past 4 years for windbreak and woodlot purposes according to paul M dunn forester for the utah extension service at logan these trees which were planted plante d on seven different areas within the county were obtained from the forest nursery maintained by the utah state agricultural college for the purpose durpos e of supplying planting stock to utah farmers at low cost about eight different kinds of trees have been planted in the county but the predominant species have been siberian elm black locust black walnut honey locust and ponderosa pine soil and moisture conditions in this section are quite favorable to tree growth says mr dunn the species particularly adapted tor for windbreaks in morgan county are the elm olive spruce and pine on the better soils and the elm olive and siberian pea tree on the drier and more alkali situations for woodlots wood lots the locusts walnut t ash catalpa and olive are recommend reco recommended miend the shipping season win will start about the first of april this year and trees of the suggested species may still be purchased from the college nursery at logan at prices averaging about 2 per hundred which includes cost of shipping order blanks or other tree planting information may be from county agent C R richards or by writing to the extension service at logan |
