Show 1 washington I 1 NEWS LETTER I 1 hy congressman CONG KESSMAN GRA agur DISCHARGE lanoe PAY FOR S or OF FORCES tile much discussed legislation providing for discharge pay tor for bemben of our armed forces was passed u both houses 0 of congress and Is now awaiting the signature of the president who undoubtedly will sign this flus bill very shortly the legislation provides a discharge allowance of to any soldier serving for 60 days or less for a soldier serving in the continental U S for 60 days or more the payment to be made at the time of discharge and 30 days hence an allowance of for soldiers who have served overseas including alaska payment to be made upon discharge and 30 day and 60 days hence this discharge pay applies to all military personnel from private to captain whose base pay does not exceed 2400 annually this rae rae of discharge pay is made retroactive and applies to all 11 personnel in these categories who have been discharged since december 7 1941 there are exclusions however of persons who upon their own initiative were released from the service to engage in civilian employment and those who spent their enlistment period in educational institutions tut ions in other words in order to receive severance pay a serviceman must actually have been serving in tho the army navy marine corps or air for forces of the U S |
