Show MORGAN COUNTY NEWS, FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 2. 19 IS Vf bl fe Overtime Work, No Overtime Pay For Doctors On Home Front The medical profession hasnt done a lot of talking about the "sacrifices its members are making. And yet doctors, perhaps more than any other group next to the service men, are making real sacrifices in this war. Thousands of them have voluntarily given up their practices. They live in the fox holes with the soldiers. They fight and die with the navy and the marines. They perform miracles amid blood and suffering. Gone Is the business for which they spent so many years in preparation, often on a financial shoe string. The doctors left at home are making sacrifices too. Men who should be enjoying the liesurely aftermath of useful careers are back in harness working at a killing pace. They are on duty 24 hours a day and they don't when Mrs. yell for Jem's is having a baby at 3 a. m. The doctors are carrying out the tradition of American medicine in every emergency. Their example might well be followed by workers in other lf fields. -A- Official Proceedings Board of Education Summit School District ND IM GOING TO DO IT THE PATRIOTIC WAY! adjourned session That s the spirit America needs right now. Even more than you know! Very soon, youre coming right up against a problem that directly affects your familys welfare and the Nations strength. Youll soon find you cant buy nearly as many canned fruits and vegetables as youd like. Yet our government says everyone must have plenty of fruits and vegetables every single day. You must feed your family well to keep America strong. Just because you cant get all you need the easy way, does that mean youre going to give up? Not a bit of it! If we know Americans, we think youll say, Well, Ive still got my brains and my own two hands. Ill do my part. Lets go to work! Why the need is so great As the worlds largest canner of fruits and vegetables, Del Monte has gladly undertaken to save every pound of fruits and vegetables possible, and still maintain Del Monte Quality. Last years Del Monte pack was the largest in our history. But our armed forces needed about a third of it. We hope to preserve even more foods this year. But well over half of them is already spoken for by the Government. Dividing the rest among the homefolks doesnt leave the plenty youre used to. Thats why, its up to you this year if you want all the vegetables and fruits your family will need. OF COURSE YOU CAN STILL GET You can raise vegetables we cant grow and can for you. You can put up the fruit from the single tree or small orchard we cant reach. We dont like to ask you to do this job. Its Del Montes business to save you work. But this is an emergency! Thats why Del Monte advertising this spring and summer will urge American housewives to plant Victory Gardens. It will point out the need for putting up fruits at home. It will urge every American housewife to join in a cooperative nation-wid- e program to Save the Sur1943 . in plus Heres how you can join: Put in a Vegetable Carden Use every bit of surplus ground. Grow fresh vegetables, to supplement the canned vegetables you buy. 2. Plan to put up fruit this Summer Every jar of fruit you put up at home will stretch your familys ration and keep surplus fruit from going to waste. Of course, you cant draw on just the finest crops, as Del Monte does. You cant do your canning where each fruit grows best. You cant always be sure of the uniform quality you find in any Del Monte Product. But the job must be done and you can do it well. 1. Coalville, Utah, 6, 1943. The board met InJanuary session adjourned at 10 a. m. with the following members present: GEO. E. RICHINS, NORMAN T. RICHINS. LYLE H. BROWN, A. L. GEARY, B. O. HOPKINS, C. RAY EVANS, Supt., H. E. CALDERWOOD, Clerk. Fruits, because of their acidic nature, are relatively easy to can at home. But all classes of non-acifoods, including most vegetables, require special care and special equipment for sterilization. Dont can any product unless you follow approved methods exactly. For official instructions send 10 to Supt. of Documents. Washington, D. C., and get USD A Home Canning Bulletin No. 1762, or consult your State University or County Extension Service. 3. Buy rationed foods with special care Choose the Del Monte Fruits and Vegetables you buy with your points so that their quality and variety will count most in serving attractive wartime meals. Many of these fine products are interchangeable in use and health values. You can select the varieties with lower point values, and know their quality will please you. d Three other suggestions: Its more important now to get the brands you know. If you prefer Del Monte, look for it. Make your points buy just as much real quality as they do quantity. Also, its especially important to plan meals ahead and shop ahead. Youll have to do it to make your "points go round. And your grocer, more than ever, needs your utmost cooperation. Added to all his other wartime difficulties, he now has the double job of supplying you and banking your ration points as well. Only with your understanding help, can he give you the best possible service. So, shop early in the week early in the day and only as often as you must. Well be ready to save you this bother again when the war is won. But until it is, what American woman will hesitate to do her part if its needed to keep her family better fed, and strong!
