Show I 1 washington NEWS LETTER lly ily congressman CONG KESSMAN GRAN Grit y POSTWAR reclamation IN UTAH with concern growing dally daily over Post postwar ivar plans yo you may be interested I 1 in n knowing of the blueprints already completed on oil rec reclamation ar nation projects tills ahls inventory has been made for irrigation and multi multiple ale purpose projects for construction in the postwar period and has been presented to the special committee on postwar economic polley policy and planning having an estimated over overall all 11 cost of approximately three billion dollars some 18 of these projects costing about are within the state of utah fifteen of the 18 projects planned for utah ut h involve the delivery of water to acres of new lands and supplemental supplies to acres of lands not having an adequate irrigation supply while the remaining three are power ind and flood control projects As the in proceed changes may bo be expected and it is my hope that additional I 1 projects might be added for this state the following Is a thumbnail thumb thu mb nail nall description of some of the utah projects project ss contemplated gooseberry project the gooseberry project area includes acres of agricultural lands now inadequately irrigated in northern sanpete valley in the vicinity of the towns of fairview mount pleasant and moroni A supplemental water supply Is to br furnished these lands by diverting weter water from gooseberry creek a tributary of price river and from huntington creek a tributary of san juan river both in the colorado river drainage basin the waters from these streams are to be collected by a system of feeder canals and stored in a reservoir to be constructed at the mammoth site on gooseberry creek A tunnel approximately two and a half miles long with convey the water from the reservoir to distribution systems on the western side of the divide emery county project the emery county project will provide a supplemental water to acres of irrigated and arable land now served from huntington and cottonwood Cotlon wood creeks tributaries tributa ries of san rafael river storage of water is contemplated at the joes valley reservoir site on cottonwood creek bluff project this project is located on the san juan river near bluff its purpose is power production an and d flood control next week I 1 will complete the discussion of these proposed projects as they affect utah |
