| Show ogden writer pays tribute to robison morgan pioneer in the news and views column of the ogden standard examiner written by that versatile writer frank francis we find the following interesting paragraphs concerning one of morgans pioneer settlers that will be mighty pleasing reading to his old time friends ED sunday feb 28 ephraim robison wall avenue celebrated his birthday he was born in bunker hill quincy county pennsylvania in 1844 and crossed the plains in 1860 lie he was one of the pioneer ranchers of morgan county I 1 helping to lay the found foundations foundation atio ns on which has been built home i life I 1 in the early days he served with the militia in the black hawk indian war he was accurate with the rifle and in the sixties when game was plentiful he proved his abili ability tyaS as a shot by killing 17 deer in one day near croyden morgan cunti I 1 r tf he has framed a road bond which he received as pay for his work on the morgan county highway in the days before the railroads the bond was his compensation for services rendered then the county neglected to redeem its obligation and the old gentleman keeps the souvenir as a reminder of the days in which trails were being made and bridges built and the makers of the trails and the builders of the bridges often failed to be properly rewarded he has no regrets for the hardships he endured or the contributions he made to the progress of the west his great pleasure is in realizing the opportunity was his and he played his part without complaining he is in good health it is great to have seen so much of the past and yet be in good health mr Ro 88 years cover the most thrilling period of all history he was a part of the frontier he saw the coming of the railroad he remer remembers abers the days of the candle and the old coal oil lamp he saw the passing of slavery he recalls his first telephone and the first electric light liggat when he crossed the plains he had not the faintest thought that some day a boy from utah would fly across the continent between d dawn w and dusk of a summer day ay or that self propelled wagons would outrun the horse horge and compete with the railroads he would like to live another 88 years but willbe vill be thankful if he is allowed to go on to the century mark he wonders if the next 88 years will bring as many changes as have the days since his childhood we also wonder ind and in our wonderment see great possibilities |
