| Show THOMAS STEED DEAD one of the first settlers of farmington died in hospital sunday in ills his eighty fourth year patriarch thomas steed who underwent an operation for strangulated bowel at the L D S ho hospital pital in salt lalo lake city on tuesday of last week breathed hs his last at 1 1117 37 p m deceased was one of the most industrious men that ever lived a davis county monday of last week ho he did as much work a any young man of twenty one could do notwithstanding his advanced aye age as had lie ho lived until tile the of next december he would have been eighty four that night ho he was taken sick and the foll following day he went under an operation ile ho seemed to be getting r along pretty well until just jasta a little before the end came when he suddenly took a turn for the worse the remains were embalmer embalmed ed at S M taylor gos cos undertaking parlors where they were kept until yesterday morning when they were taken to tho the family residence in farmington whore where they could be viewed until noon funeral services were held in the farmington aeeti meeting n g house thursday at 1 p m thomas steed was born at molvern olvern Ivl Herford shire england the house he was born in standing right on the dividing t line between england and wales deceased and ills his cousin the late henry steed belonged to the religious organization known as the united brethren the leaders and members of which wore were all converted to mormonism by president wilford woodruff in 1842 when he was only six tem years old he and his cousin sted for the gathering place of the saints at nauvoo they went by the tha way of new orleans december 1846 at kirk urk iowa ho he married laura reed who preceded him to the great beyond by seven years he is survived by a widow celia steed and nine children eight children having passed away the living are geo 11 steed tremonton Tro Tre monton T J steed clearfield A A stood steed canada walter steed syracuse mrs E A cottrell mrs george H meadows and ira steed of Far minton he has sixty four grandchildren and about forty four great grandchildren ho he and his family arrived in salt lake august 1850 whore where he built a house the same year he went to farmin farmington to look at the place the following year lie he bought the captain davis place and and moved his family up davis was about the first settler in farmington deceased made his bis homo home in farmington ever afterward lie he was one of the best known men in tho the county having f frequently tho the different wards of the stake and addressed the saints he and his brother henry who iwho came here together worked their farms jointly for many years steed canyon and steed creek hear bear tile the names of the deceased |
