Show Writes About Viet Nam Status Editors Editor's note The following following follow follow- ing letter from Gary Duncan was received by his parents parents' Mr and Mrs Byron Duncan We flew up here to Qui Nhon morning so we are finally located at least in a fairly permanent barracks so maybe I can unpack my bags and live at least a little bit like a human being again It sure gets tiresome Ito tto have to live out of a duffle bag for fora a month or so The area we are in has a areal areal areal real beautiful beach with pure white sand that a person has hasto hasto hasto to see to believe The only trouble is that all the sewage from the area is dumped there thereso so we cant can't swim in the water There is one small area about a hundred yards long a mile mlle or so up the beach from here where swimming is allowed The only trouble there is that ithe other side is controlled by bythe bythe bythe the Viet Cong so everyone is sort of leary about using It Up here where the compound compound com com- pound is located it is also real sandy and so darn hot and dry that it reminds me quite a bit of the desert area in southern Utah and Nevada except except except ex ex- the growth on the moun- moun and wetter areas is tropical tropical tropical tro tro- tro- tro in nature instead of cactus cactus cactus cac cac- and sagebrush But it seems like a ra pretty fair place otherwise and the ithe monsoon season for this area begins in October so I understand it gets pretty damp then |
