Show Sea e s Thanked Be sure to thank everybody who helped in any way in the search for Mitzi Th That t was the word given B Bert rt Seeley of M Manti by his uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Wallace Peterson when he stopped at their Indianola r ranch home S Sunday night to to inquire about the condition of lit little le Mitzi Hermansen and to ask if th there re was anything the Petersons would like put in inthe inthe inthe the Manti ManU and Ephraim pa pa- pers It all came about because of the ithe 2 year old Mitzi being lost for some 29 hours near th the Peterson home She had wandered away from other family members about on Saturday morning and was found at about Sunday afternoon tired dirty thirsty and hungry but apparently ly in good shape considering the many hours in the rain darkness darkness darkness dark- dark ness and cold The girl is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale K Hermansen Herman Herman- sen 2842 So West Gran Gran- ger Her father is a nephew of Lawrence Hermansen Mrs Joseph Joseph Jo Jo- seph F. F Anderson and Mrs Alma Lund of Ephraim being a son of the late Mr and Mrs Joseph Hermansen of Mt Pleasant The grandparents had also lived at Monroe Manti Man Man- ti and Parowan Dale built the new cafe on the east side of State Street near the Sanpete Sanpete Sanpete San San- pete Hospital in Mt Pleasant but does not operate operate oper opere ate it He does however spend considerable time in Mt Pl Pleasant FAMILY MEMBERS started a search for the child immediately lately after she was first miss miss- ed They called for outside assistance a arid and d a search was organized Immediately with some persons participating ing Satur Saturday y l Many my more snore joined joined join join- ed the search Sunday and it is estimated that as many as 1000 p persons may h have ve participated part pa t of the time They included riding clubs anc and o other her er organized groups from Sanpete and Utah Counties Counties Counties Coun Coun- ties US U.S. Forest Service per per- peace officers men m men n from the Utah Fish and Game Utah Highway Patrol and hu hundreds hundreds hun hun- 1 of citizens from nearby I communities Some continued to search I 4 through the night and arid on S Sunday Sunday Sun Sun- I day morning fire sir sirens ns were 1 sounded or bells rung to alert m more te people to join in trying to find the missing tot Church officials urged male members to participate in the search and women to prepare food and take to the Peterson ranch for the searchers State papers said two planes joined in the hunt for the child and that one of them was a private plane from Eph Epli raim Harvey Draper owner of the only Ephraim plane said this was not so as he knew nothing of the child being lost 1 until after her rescue Wells and ponds in the area were drained after hours of searching failed to give any trace of the child I It was Forest Ranger Martel Ma lel I Applegate of Mt Pleasant who first spotted the child He and anda I a group of other horsemen had passed the place where she was when he turned back just as she stood up in the I tall grass She was soon placed f I Ii i in the arms o of her grandfather I er who was with the group and a member of the party l I fired his rifle three times times to to signify the girl had be been ri I found She was taken to her anxious parents at the Peterson Peterson Peter Peter- son ranch home and then I rushed to a Provo hospital for fora a check I 1 Fifteen members of the i Dusty Riders Ephraim riding club responded to the call for help Th They y had just unloaded unloaded unloaded un un- loaded their horses and were being organized for a drive when the three rifle shots sounded Mr and Mrs Richand Richard Richard Rich Rich- ard and Nielson went to the search site early Sunday Mrs Nelson Nielson Nielson Niel- Niel son having been a schoolmate of Mrs Hermansen Mr and i Mrs Lawrence Hermansen also went to Indianola but did not arrive until the small girl i had been found |
