Show S1 STAbLE STAhLE AhLE I By LARRY STAHLE Small boys boy's definition of a conscience Something that makes you tell your mother before your sister does The pageant Is over The scenery has been taken down The chairs returned The director di director director di- di rector has returned to her home In Salt Lake The cast members are erasing the bags from under their sleepless eyes But there are still a few reminders of the pageant lying ly lyIng lying ly- ly ing around One of the biggest reminders remind remind- ers is the box load of lost and found items that Morgan Dyreng Dyreng Dyreng Dy- Dy reng Is packing around not to mention the tile eye glasses and keys we have at the Messenger Messenger Messenger Mes Mes- office We also have some vivid memories of the past week in which we took part in the an annual annual annual an- an nual pageant We will never forget the cars that were still streaming out of Manti ManU 45 minutes minutes min raIn utes after the end of the per per- Also we cant can't erase the memory of cars parked out on the Main Highway about a half mile from the pageant site There are a few unusual comments comments comments com com- ments which we have read or heard since the pageant also One year old boy put it right on the line when he saidI said saidI I 1 liked it Another person cut loose with I HI wish I could have seen better Too many tress etc etc But the one that sums up everything that has been said or written noted The pageant was well written but too well attended A couple of our visitors were Impressed with the lights on the temple They thought that It was wonderful that the pageant of officials officials officials of- of would go to all the trouble trouble trouble trou trou- ble to erect lights on the structure structure structure ture just for the pageant Probably the thing that will remain with me for a longtime long longtime time me occurred at the end of the Friday performance My parents parents parents par par- who live in Bountiful had said that they may consider coming down but didn't give me much hope because they dont don't like traveling after dark After the end of or the pageant I was standing on the stage at attired attired attired at- at tired in my fine raiment with my first quality Phyllis Diller blonde wig atop my dome when who steps forward but my dad and mom It was hard for me meto meto meto to decide if they were going to laugh or not when they saw me up close When his engine conked out a pilot landed his plane on a freeway He lie jumped out and went over to a car that had pulled off the road out of his way intending to ask for help But the woman sitting next to the driver of the car shouted shout shout- ed Well Vell get out of the way Mister if you will show us where to go My husband is the only driver in the world who could start out on a freeway freeway free free- way and end up In the middle of an airport A man who wins an argument argument argument ment with his wife has only himself to blame Anybody who thinks everyone today is dishonest doesn't know Don Edwards of Gunnison Last Wednesday Don passed a first class test to prove the point As he was piloting his painting painting painting paint paint- ing truck along the highway between Manti ManU and Ephraim he lie saw a small object lying in the middle of the road So he stopped stopped stopped stop stop- ped to investigate As he reached the spot he recognized zed the item ite m as a wallet Quickly he searched through it to try and find out who it belonged be belonged belonged be- be longed to but all he could find was a California address Further investigation revealed reveal reveal- ed that the wallet contained in cash Tills This Tl s simply put Don in a frenzy He lie galloped back to his truck and turned the vehicle around and headed back for ManU Manti to turn his find over to Sanpete County Sheriff Grant K Lar- Lar sen Sheriff Larsen did some checking and found out that the wallet was actually the property c of or Susan Jensen who was In p py Manti Manta for a visit and to see the Mormon lormon Miracle pageant it Sheriff Larsen noted that it s r- r Isn't very often orten that someone it Ir will bring In a wallet with that hi much cash in It I 1 So you see if you think that tc everyone Is a crook you had i IP iC better go meet Don Edwards wA w A confirmed optimist Is a f t fellow who gets married at f fage age 93 and buys a house near neara 1 a school t hi 1 Mrs J.
