J Anderson Anderson Ander Ander- son soa had just about scared me out ont of even atte attempting to at attend attend attend at- at tend the parade in Pasadena They said that you had to pay paya a small fortune for a seat and If you didn't buy a seat well I just cant can't print their Ing comments Come the day dav before New Years Corynne and Joyce were game to try so we headed north from Long Beach to Pasadena Pasadena Pas Pas- adena via the freeways Upon our arrival we were told that the police allow overnight overnight overnight over over- night parking on many of the city streets so we set out to find one of the designated areas About 20 minutes later we were parked just a second 10 walk from Colorado Blvd where the parade would be staged Then the excitement begins We bumped into a wonderful family from beautiful downtown Burbank who were old veterans veterans veterans veter veter- ans of the parade They fished out four old camp stools from the back of their camper which they said they had never used but had come with their camper when they bought it They set them up on the sidewalk for us to reserve our spot We then noticed that the canvas seats were torn so I made mad a rush trip to a grocery store down the street for some needles Joyce and our California host then reupholstered the four chairs with new fabric over the torn canvas to make the them m good and sturdy As you glanced up and down the street you could see bonfires bonfires bonfires bon bon- fires flickering up and down Colorado Blvd People were setting up chairs along the curb and then placing sleeping bags beside them and then jumping inside the bags to keep warm Our hosts had a small charcoal charcoal charcoal char char- coal grill which they used to obtain heat along with roasting We were told to go to bed about by our California hosts who said that they would stand guard duty and move the chairs up to the blue line at 1145 as pot po 2 a police order c The blue line Is painted in about the same place that the white lines Unes are on our highways Just beyond the parking area to designate designate designate des des- ignate the area where the cars should be parked to be out of the flow of traffic We did hit the sack and the first couple of hours we slept like a rock But when the bewitching bewitchIng be bewitching be- be witching hour of midnight ar arrived arrived arrived ar- ar rived I have never heard so much commotion I was afraid that they were tearing down Main Street brick by brick From then on sleep was scarce After 1970 had arrived It seemed as though he had brought most of California with him Humanity was everywhere And they all seemed to be on their feet moving from here hero to there About every half hour someone would come up to the back door of our camper and pOund want- want Ing to know if anyone was home About the time you could start to drop off to dreamland again another fist slammed Into thedoor thedoor the thedoor door and a voice would shout Wake up At 6 In the morning we de decided decided decided de- de to hazard the crowds By this time much of the livestock livestock livestock live live- stock had found Its way to the pavement and was sprawled out all over the roads Sleeping bags were placed right up to the blue line with the heads of the bag occupants just mere inches away from the automobile automobile automo automo- bile hUe tires racing up and down Colorado Blvd About the time that the pa parade parade parade pa- pa rade was to start people started started started start start- ed to arrive with step ladders upon which they took position People also hung from the street si Ol m s V busin Y t e ss s f i mn an r n d r 1 b Mt ou I- I t b gnu OU a anything that would hold their weight But when the parade came along all the wait proved to be bewell bewell bewell well worthwhile When the mass of humanity departed following the spectacular spectacular spectacular spec spec- event I have never seen such a littered up street In fact I heard on the radio that the up clean-up of the street alone would cost the city of Pasadena Pasadena Pasadena Pasa Pasa- dena somewhere in the neighborhood neighborhood reading the evening newspaper and said to his father Dad it says here that thata a certain man was a financial financial finan finan- cial genius What does that mean That meant said his father that he could earn money faster than his family family fam fam- ily Uy could spend it Last Friday night when we were in Ogden on business my law in a professor at Weber State College invited me meto meto meto to go to the Weber State basketball basketball basketball bas bas- game with him He even obtained a ticket for me with tin the compliments of Coach Phil Johnson of the Wildcats I really enjoyed several parts of the contest One thing that has always been Interesting to watch Is the blocking of shots without the almost certain foul that will be called later A couple of the Weber players were fantastic in that depart depart- ment One of them blocked sever several several sev sev- er eral l shots when the opposing Idaho guards would steal the ball from them and go down the floor without any opposition to stop them Suddenly one of the Wildcat players seemed to come ou of nowhere and bat the theban ball ban out of bounds without even touch ng the opposing player Another note of interest was th the Weber State Frosh Fresh game against the The young Wildcats pulled off an ano another another an- an o other her point one-point win something they have done twice this season season season sea sea- son thus far to the Snow College College College Col Col- lege Badgers Speaking of the Badgers they have had more stoppers heart-stoppers this year that have been lost by one point I have come to the conclusion that the Badgers and their new coach Gary Bliss must have nerves of steel This casaba season seems to tobe tobe tobe be the year of the point one-point games The University of Utah salvaged s one last week as did Ricks College against College of Eastern Utah As you scan the scores daily dally you will note several games each day that were won by only one point In my opinion that is the worst type of game to lose It Is s ti times like that I am glad that I have now been relegated relegated relegated rele rele- gated to the roe of spectator and that I am no not paying on ona ona ona a team that is having scores as close clos as the Badgers The editor received a i man malt manuscript with a letter which said The characters in this story are purely fictional and bear no
