Show Youths Attend Pioneer Fetes I I By ANN HORNUNG The past week has been a avery avery avery very busy one at the Hornung Home on West 1st North in Manti where over children were entertained at three parties parties parties par par- ties sponsored by the Manti ManU I Women Fo For South Sanpete and hosted by Ann Hornung On Tuesday July a party party party par par- ty was given for boys and girls 5 to 7 years of age About 75 children from Manti Ephraim and Sterling attended the affair which commenced at 2 pm p.m. Soon after everyone was seated the neighborhood children children chil chil- dren put on a skit using as a backdrop the small pioneer cabin on the Hornung lot It was formerly located on the property of Howard Cox Mrs l Bruce Jennings directed the pioneer play The cast of the play which was presented at each of the three parties was as follows Julie Goodwin Aunt Libby pioneer woman of Manti Claire Goodwin Indian brave Rose Mary Goodwin pioneer child JoAnn Jennings Indian mother who had twins J Jennilee Jennilee Jenni- Jenni lee Allred Indian child adopted by Aunt Libby Ken Allred Chief Walker Chad Allred In Indian Indian Indian In- In dian brave Blake Allred small Indian child and Janell Allred small pioneer child After the pioneer skit music For far the grand march was furnished furnished furnished fur fur- by Edwin Carpenter on the guitar and Harry Hornung on the harmonica Each child was presented before three judges who awarded prizes for forthe forthe forthe the four best costumes Ann Hornung was the commentator Prize winners for the first party were Doug Jensen In- In I L A n 0 wail viii nun nn nal wll pIOneer girl Donnie Mackey Indian and Lisa Jensen pioneer Games with lots of prizes were played At refreshment time the children listened as Mrs Hornung told stories stones of pioneer days in San Pete Similar parties were held on July for boys 8 to 12 years of age and on July for girls of the same age The boys' boys party costume winners were Brad Bown Indian Indian In In- dian chief Fred Johnson Indian Indian In In- dian brave Russell Barton cowboy Michael Anderson Brigham Young Many of cf the costumes were made by the mothers for the occasion One Indian costume was beaded on felt which must have taken many hours of work Michael Anderson was very dignified as Brigham Young with large hat dark suit beard etc The girls' girls party on July was attended by a large crowd as the girls seem to enjoy dressing up Sun bonnets of all shapes and sizes were worn by the girls The winners of the costume contest were Kelly Carlisle Indian maiden Stacy Rasmus- Rasmus sen Indian princess Nancy McGarry pioneer woman with apron Micky Men Merz Brigham Young and Kim Keller Amelia Ame Arne Amelia lia Jia Young |
